(Australia-NewsWire.Com, March 22, 2016 ) Sydney, Australia -- The year 2014 has seen a steady increase in nail salon establishments, primarily due to the growing popularity of nail art on the internet and social media, a beauty industry expert says. Emma Grojnowski, a former nail technician in Australia and founder of beauty company, Hydracol USA, was inspired by the growth of the nail art industry online, prompting her to build her own nail care and beauty company. "My first motivation was the release of gel polish which caused many of my clients to skip our regular manicures," Grojnowski said of her company's flagship product. "I was directly competing with Shellac so I had to find a way to attract new clients by offering something that's like gel polish but not as expensive."
Following the launch of her company, Grojnowski conducted a simple survey as to the growth of nail art trends and its effects on the nail care business. The survey found that 10% of nail salon businesses in Knoxville, Australia, opened to provide nail art services to its clientelle, while existing nail salons added nail art services on top of their regular manicure and pedicure services in 2014. More and more women are paying close attention to their nails, specifically the intricacy of the designs that are painted on them.
Amanda Naples, a local nail salon owner and nail technician in downtown Knoxville, said she thought of opening a nail salon in 2014 to follow the growing trend of nail art and nail gel designs. "I've always wanted to open my own shop, but I didn't know what business to enter, until I saw that nail art channels on Youtube are getting hundreds of thousands of views." Naples said, adding that she was inspired by the beautiful designs that nail artists did in the comfort of their own homes. "I know not all people can create intricate and glamorous designs like that," she said.
When Naples opened her shop, she hired two nail artists who were trained to create nail art designs. Now, Naples continues to pursue the nail care industry through her own business. Meanwhile, with the help of online platforms, Grojnowski believes the nail care industry will continue to grow in the next couple of years.
