(Australia-NewsWire.Com, March 17, 2016 ) Sydney, Australia -- A study conducted last June 2014 in Ohio confirms that healthy skin is directly related to a healthy diet. In the study, a total of 100 participants were placed under observation to see how their diet affected their skin. All of the participants had an underlying skin condition, mostly eczema and acne.
The participants were split into two groups. The first group ate healthy foods and avoided all kinds of fast foods, processed foods, and ready to eat foods in stores. The second group ate all of the foods the first group avoided.
Based on the results, the risks of breaking out were higher for those who belonged to the first group as compared to those in the second group. Within 6 months of observation, the first group had an average breakout rate of 78% as compared to the second group whose breakout rate were at 46%. Lead author of the study, Dr. Joseph Baum, linked poor diet to a weaker immune system, thus, resulting to skin imperfections.
"Having breakouts means the body is unable to hold back infections, and those who have more breakouts typically have a weaker immune system," Dr. Baum said. "Their bodies can't fight the infection before it manifests into a full-blown disease like acne and eczema." Dr. Baum suggests following a healthy and well-balanced diet to keep the skin healthy and to reduce breakouts. He also recommends using high quality skin care products such as Vitamin C serums to minimize breakouts.
"What we eat has a very huge effect on our body. Our skin is not an exemption as it is the largest body organ," he added. Dr. Baum also encourages everyone to follow a healthier lifestyle, regular exercise, and avoid salty, fatty, and processed foods altogether. This will not just improve skin but the overall health and wellness of the individual as well.
