(Australia-NewsWire.Com, January 26, 2016 ) Bendigo, VIC -- Night King Pro has been having to fend of High Jackers on its Amazon listing for it's popular bike lights that have been on sale over the winter. High Jacking is a term used for when a new vendor starts selling on an Amazon listing and stealing sales. Sometimes they may be reselling items bought in bulk at a discount, but often it is non brand affiliated products being sold as genuine with enough of a discount to be given the buy box" as a preference from Amazon.
"Our concern is not just the loss of sales to these non-official sellers, but the potential liability" said Night King Pro's Managing Director Phillip Paton. "If somebody buys an inferior product and then there is some unfortunate issue the customer may hold us liable. Even though they have not bought our product from us, Amazon is telling them that they have".
While imitation may be the largest of compliments, non-official products can damage sales, and a company's reputation due to reduced quality and customer support.
Sellers on Amazon have been trying different techniques to discourage or remove High Jackers. On occasions a "cease and desist" letter is enough to scare somebody away, but experienced High Jackers from outside the US know they cannot be touched, and that Amazon allows numerous venders to sell on the same listing.
Some non-official products will be sold without packaging, but even packaging can be copied leading the customer to believe even further that they have a genuine product.
The best method is to do a trial purchase, then appeal to Amazon with evidence that the goods are not genuine. Amazon will then refund the purchase price and sometimes cancel the High Jacker's account. "We cannot always do this in Australia if the High Jackers do not ship to Australia" complained Mr Paton.
Night King Pro has been successfully selling premium bike lights on Amazon since the middle of 2015. Their goal is to provide quality products for discerning cyclists at a competitive price. Being based in Australia but selling in the US has been a challenge but seen as vital for the company's future.
