(Australia-NewsWire.Com, January 22, 2016 ) Brisbane, Queensland -- Dr. Hannah Green, a pediatrician in Middlebury, Vermont has suggested parents to use cooking as a way to improve their bond with their children.
According to Dr. Green, "Children can be taught various skills and traits at an early age. Cooking is a skill that also uses various communication methods, cognitive functions, and personal techniques in order to fully prepare a dish. Not only are you teaching your children a vital skill that can be used until their adulthood, but you are also learning new things together and discovering different characteristics of one another."
Dr. Green gives some recommendations on how to make cooking a family bonding activity. "Make something that the kids like," she stated. "Baked goodies like cookies, cakes, pies, and breads are both fun and tasty. You will also be able to make as many or as few as you want. The key is making the most out of the experience. You got to bake something tasty while also spend time with your children and grow closer to them."
She also warns about the children's safety inside the kitchen and what steps can be taken to ensure that no one gets hurt. "I highly recommend using kitchen cut-resistant safety gloves for both you and the kids, especially if you're preparing something that requires a lot of slicing like vegetables and fruits."
She also adds, "Use only the freshest ingredients because your children will keep that note in their heads until they grow up. They will not settle for processed and packaged foods. Instead, they will always use healthy and natural ingredients which are very good for their bodies."
Dr. Green advises parents who are not good cooks to follow recipe books at first and learn the skill with their children, so that there will be plenty of room for improvement.
