(Australia-NewsWire.Com, June 21, 2013 ) Chengdu, Sichuan -- The Chengdu Ruckin Reds women's rugby team built on a 20-12 halftime lead to beat Beijing she devils 40-19 in the Sichuan super 7's rugby tournament in Chengdu China at the weekend. Beijing defended well at times, but the Chengdu Ruckin Reds dominated possession, and with Stephanie Brown on a rampage, the winning score was inevitable.
Players Mirjam "Hit it up" Kert, Lou "fend" Flandrin and Camellia Song were solid in the front row, and in form fly-half Halstene Ancheta ran strongly and was a handful for the Beijing Players, second five-eighth Sarah Crombie scored and had a solid game defensively.
Surprisingly, given the hot conditions, both teams handled the heat well.
Beijing dominated the first 2 minutes of the second half but, as the game continued, the home team regained the upper hand. Ruckin Reds newcomers Suzanne "Catch me if you can" Sittko and Ariel "run like the breeze" Grob both scored tries on their rugby debut.
Dorien Emmers and Penny Hope were unyielding with their hard tackles, Sherry Zhong and Emily Luoping were outstanding in the backs, showing good defence out wide to stop some Beijing breaks.
Halfback Karen wheelan had a solid game and her pressure on the Beijing halfback was the foundation of the Ruckin Reds forward momentum.
Try of the day went to Tian Tian , her support play went from one end of the field to the other, definitely one to watch in the future.
In the end the Ruckin Reds had too much skill and unity in support, for Beijing to really threaten. Beijing had its chances but in the end were outmatched,
Ruckin Reds beat the Beijing she devils in both games on the day 40-19 and 20-5. .
The Ruckin Reds are taking a 6 week break and will resume training come August , trying out some some new Agility training techniques with the Trained Sports agility ladders.
