(Australia-NewsWire.Com, July 20, 2013 ) Queensland, Australia -- The National Construction Code for wind-reinforced garage doors and windows and doors has been changed and revised, requiring all new buildings built in cyclone-prone areas of Northern Australia to use wind-resistant garage doors. These recent changes to the Code and Australian Standards apply to new buildings in all coastal areas north of Bundaberg in Queensland, the Northern Territory, and West Australia, down to Carnarvon.
The revised standards state that garage doors and other large access doors should be able to experience and withstand wind speeds of up to 266 to 310 km/h. They should be tested, certified, and supplied with a sticker displaying the information including the door’s design pressure.
CTS development manager Graeme Stark explained that the inclusion of the new standards was important to make sure that garage doors were of the same standards as the buildings they were being installed on.
Stark pointed out that premature failure of a door can lead to more expensive damage to the building, its contents, and the surrounding property, and even endangered lives. The new revision helps to prevent those damages and make both buildings and garages even safer.
